EGR Valve block off plate

Anyone tried this?? Seen a few threads on T4Forum and some clean theirs, others stick the plate on. I decided to get the plate as its only a fiver - but it didnt come with a gasket. Matey reckons you dont need a new one, just stick it on top of old one. Other bloke on forum stuck a new gasket either side. I need a bit of advice from someone who knows as I dont know shite about engines other than they are expensive and dirty.
